DK “Atlantic Rap” Vol.1 Featuring Ras Kass, Wais P, UFO Fev, Rasheed Chappell Saukrates & More

“My name is DK. I’m a hip-hop producer from Nova Scotia, Canada. I’ve just released a new producer compilation called Atlantic Rap Vol. 1 that showcases my latest and most forward-thinking production alongside brilliant lyricists from North America’s underground like UFO Fev, Rasheed Chappell, and Saukrates, to name a few.

Acclaimed Nova Scotia-based producer DK (Darrell Kelloway) creates soulful, jazzy, and subtly groundbreaking boom-bap. Think DJ Premier or Pete Rock with a contemporary twist, a modern mix of vinyl-sampled drums, analog synthesizers, dusty loops, and live instrumentation. DK’s beats conjure images of train cars blasted with DayGlo graffiti murals and stairwell cyphers in a world where rap’s golden age never ended. If anyone brings the ‘90s to now, it’s DK.

DK’s most recent project, 2022’s Listen to the Masters (Black Buffalo Records/Fat Beats), was a collaboration with revered Canadian MC Ghettosocks that featured elite rappers like CL Smooth, O.C., El Da Sensei, Moka Only, and Rome Streetz. Listen to the Masters generated much-deserved buzz from press and radio shows. Complex CA and The Globe and Mail interviewed DK about working with CL Smooth and praised the project, while Okayplayer said DK and Ghettosocks put on a “boom bap clinic.” Songs from Listen to the Masters have appeared on Statik Selektah’s “Showoff Radio” and DJ Eclipse’s “RapIsOuttaControl” on Shade 45. The legendary Chuck D also led off his “…And You Don’t Stop” radio show with “The Masters” (with CL Smooth and El Da Sensei), later tweeting, “It’s flawless work coupled with giants.”

Atlantic Rap Vol. 1 is DK’s latest compilation, the first of a three-volume showcase of brilliant lyricists from North America’s underground that bumps to the sounds of DK’s knocking and imaginative boom-bap. Enlisting MCs from rap capitals like New York (UFO Fev, Wais P), NNorth Carolina (Cesar Comanche), and Canada (Ghettosocks, Saukrates), DK scores their vivid verses with his fusion of crackling samples, analog synths, and progressive instrumentation. Each beat flattens time, conjuring the warmth and grit of ’90s production while moving into the future with lush musicality. DK pairs every suite with the perfect narrator, established and rising rappers who deliver grimy street memoirs and intricate verbal assaults. Atlantic Rap Vol. 1 is a highlight reel from the long-celebrated and the next to blow up.”
